Maintenance

Wool is a great material for making clothes because it is antibacterial and odor resistant. Woolen clothing therefore does not need to be washed often. Hang the garment outside occasionally to freshen it up. If you still want to wash the garment, we recommend Texelana Wool Detergent . Never rub hard when washing by hand to prevent felting. Always look at the label in the garment for washing instructions. Always let woolen clothing lie flat to dry.

Treating your woolen garment in this way will not only make it more beautiful and last longer. By airing instead of washing you also save the environment.

Store woolen clothes

We recommend that you store your woolen clothing clean, possibly with a bag of lavender; this keeps the moths at bay. It is also best to store woolen clothing lying down, so that the elasticity of the wool is not affected.

Pills and fluff

Wool can pill or pill due to use. This has nothing to do with the quality of the wool. Pilling is a natural phenomenon that is mainly caused by friction. Wool consists of many hairs with a natural frizz (curl). Friction can cause the wool to pill and felt. When felting, the hairs join together due to friction. In fact, every movement causes friction. You often find the lint/pills on the sleeves and under the armpits.

New clothing may sometimes have some loose hairs left behind after the weaving and knitting process.

Unfortunately, pills and lint on your beautiful (merino) woolen clothing cannot be prevented. We have some tips on how to delay this process somewhat and how to remove the lint and pills. For this information we refer to our blog.

About Kerry Woollen Mills

Located on the beautiful Ring of Kerry on Ireland's Atlantic coast, the 17th century Kerry Woollen Mills has been making fine wool fabrics and yarns for over 300 years.

History :
Kerry Woollen Mills is one of the last remaining traditional woolen mills still producing in the beautiful Kerry countryside. Founded more than 300 years ago to alleviate local poverty, the mill drew on the adjacent Gweestin River for the power to power its machinery and the water to wash and dye its wool. The mill was purchased in 1904 by the Eadie family, who had previously been active in wool production in Fermangh and Scotland for many years. Today the fourth generation is at the helm of the family business.

The mill is in a rural location with many of the three hundred year old buildings still standing and functional! The machinery has of course changed many times over the years, combining tradition and contemporary styling for today's discerning customers in Ireland and beyond!

Kerry Woollen Mills creates products that last, provide warmth and pleasure and are linked to Ireland's heritage and long-established skills.
