A piece of Texelana history
Texelana was founded in 1990 and was taken over by Frida and Willem Jan in 2017. For Willem Jan, entrepreneurship was a conscious choice after years of working on the mainland. Frida brought her experience as an executive secretary to the company. With the acquisition of Texelana, they brought together their love for Texel and high-quality wool products in a wonderful Texel company.
Frida - The love for wool
At Texelana, we have consciously chosen sustainability, respect for nature, and the use of high-quality wool products. Frida: “Wool has a fine and durable character. It is a by-product of sheep and can be used for many purposes. From wool clothing to warm slippers, but also the lanolin from the fleece is used for our skincare line. The versatility of this beautiful product fits perfectly with Texelana's mission.”
Willem Jan - Freedom
For Willem Jan, Texel means freedom. "The beach to blow away the cobwebs, the meadows with their many lambs in spring, but also the cosiness and hustle and bustle in high season; Texel has it all. Entrepreneurship on this beautiful island adds an extra dimension to the feeling of freedom. Together with an enthusiastic team, we run this wonderful company; we are proud of Texelana!"
Wool products
Texelana is a typical Texel company: down-to-earth, honest, and always developing. We attach great importance to the “authentic story”. A large part of our clothing line is made from merino wool. Merino wool is very suitable for clothing because it feels extremely soft and comfortable. Our duvets, pillows and underblankets are filled with pure new wool. As we do not have our own production capacity on Texel, our products are made in the Netherlands and elsewhere in Europe
The benefits of wool
Wool forms the identity of Texelana for a good reason, explains Willem Jan. "Just as wool protects the sheep, it does the same in clothing. Wool retains its insulating properties, even when wet. It keeps you warm in cold conditions and ventilates when it's warm. Moreover, wool hardly absorbs body odors due to its antibacterial effect and breathability; odors and stains therefore penetrate the wool fiber less quickly. Wool also needs to be washed less often than other materials, making it an environmentally friendly choice."
At Texelana, we understand the importance of sustainability, both for the environment and when it comes to animal welfare. Willem Jan: "We strive for all our wool to come from sheep that are kept and cared for in an animal-friendly way."
"Our collection includes a wide range of wool products that provide comfort and warmth in every season," adds Frida. "From luxurious wool blankets and pillows to soft wool sweaters and cardigans, we have something for everyone. We also offer a selection of sheepskin slippers, wool felt or boiled wool, which ensure wonderfully warm feet, even on the coldest days."

Texelana has three shops on Texel where you can view, feel, and try on our beautiful products. You can find us in Oudeschild, Den Burg, and De Koog. If you're unable to come to Texel, you can easily order online via the Texelana webshop. So no matter where you are; Texelana is always close by.
