Sustainability
At Texelana we understand the importance of sustainability, both for the environment and when it comes to animal welfare. We would like to introduce you to the sustainable aspects and benefits of wool products in an honest way.
We have been working on mapping out how we can optimize our sustainability policy. For this we have divided the different topics into product, delivery and business operations.
Sustainable product
Consider the following:
Circular economy : Focus on reusing and recycling products and materials.
Before wool is offered for recycling, it is often possible to repair a hole in a sweater* or to provide slippers with a new wool insole. Or to go to the shoemaker if a seam is loose. This extends the lifespan of the product.
If you would rather recycle something, we have mapped out the various collection points in the Netherlands so that you can always find the collection point nearest to you.
We are also registered with UPV Textiel, an organisation that is committed to an efficient textile collection system to enable reuse and high-quality recycling.

Sustainable product range:
Product Quality : Longer life and durability.
Wool lasts a lifetime if you take good care of it. In addition, wool clothing is often timeless and not subject to fashion and therefore does not need to be replaced every season.
Wool also needs little washing, airing it outside is enough to freshen it up. This saves you energy costs because you don't have to use the washing machine.
Because wool regulates temperature, it keeps you warm in the winter and ventilates in the summer. With a warm woolen sweater, duvet or pair of slippers, you can turn the thermostat in your home down a (few) degree(s). This has the advantage that energy consumption is reduced, which is better for the environment.
Product range: Diverse range of environmentally friendly products.
Transparency: Clear information about the sustainability of products.
Sustainable raw materials: Use of renewable and environmentally friendly raw materials.
Animal welfare: Products respect animal welfare standards.
For the above points, we have researched which (sustainable) quality marks the brands we sell meet. We have processed this per brand in a *blog to give our customers an easy and clear overview of this. We also strive to provide the information as extensively as possible for the products in the webshop.
We want to enter into discussions with our suppliers to realise the most sustainable supply possible. This mainly concerns certifications and/or quality marks that have yet to be achieved. We want to stimulate everyone in the chain to be actively involved in sustainability.

Sustainable delivery
Packaging : Using environmentally friendly packaging and reducing waste.
A large part of our shipping boxes are made of x amount % recycled cardboard (this varies by type of cardboard box) or grass boxes. We now first use up the plastic shipping bags, when the plastic bags are used up we switch to a more sustainable recycled variant.
Information about the maintenance of the purchased items is digital and no longer with flyers. This reduces waste.
Delivery: Sustainable delivery methods to reduce CO2 emissions.
Orders are shipped via DHL Go green. They have various objectives to make deliveries as green as possible. If you also want to have an impact on reducing CO2, have your package delivered to a service point or an agreed location around your home. We have more information about this in the frequently asked questions
Returns : Efficient and environmentally friendly return procedures.
Analyses have shown that the return percentage of Texelana is very low. This is partly because we give our customers the most extensive size advice possible, this can be done personally via customer service or read more about it in the product description. We regularly monitor returns and adjust the size advice or product information if necessary. From now on we use an automatic return system. This gives us better insights, e.g. reason for return. We hope to reduce returns with this. The return can also be registered digitally, this prevents unnecessary paper consumption/ink for printing return labels.
Sustainable business operations
Management:
- Business Ethics: Ethical Business Conduct.
The core value of Texelana is integrity. This is endorsed by the autonomy/freedom and future orientation of Texelana. The way Texelana does this is no-nonsense and they make that happen from knowledge and (customer) friendliness.
- Governance and supervision: Good governance and control.
The management of the company consists of the owners Willem Jan and Frida. They are the owners of the company. Within the company there are no different management layers, all colleagues are equal and everyone has their own specialism.
- Risk management: Identifying and managing sustainability risks.
Within the company, the risks that are taken are examined in various areas. For example, there is a lot of consultation with the financial department and a business analyst has been hired for six months now who calculates many scenarios.
CO2 reduction company building:
- Livability of the environment: Positive impact on the environment.
New business premises, so much already according to the new standard (energy efficient)
We purchased another business premises in 2022. This building is not connected to gas and is equipped with a heat pump and underfloor heating. The forklift used is electric and the entire building is equipped with LED lighting. Waste is collected separately in the building (plastic, residual and cardboard) and no disposable cups are used
Staff:
- Employee engagement and growth: Investing in employees.
The staff is very involved in the company and there is a lot of focus on personal responsibility within the team. There is no hierarchical structure within the company and consultations are short and quick.
- Working conditions: Promote good working conditions.
In the area of sustainability, staff can make use of a bicycle lease plan, which is also used.
In addition, great care is taken to ensure a safe working environment. And staff are given every opportunity to learn and grow.
