Specifications & material

  • 100% Norwegian sheep wool
  • Temperature regulating
  • Moisture regulating
  • Always check the label inside the garment for washing instructions.

Care

Handwash. Always check the label inside the garment for washing instructions.

Wool is antibacterial and odor-resistant. Therefore, wool clothing doesn't need to be washed often. Hang the garment outside to air occasionally, and it will quickly freshen up. If you do want to wash the garment, we recommend Texelana Wool Detergent.
Always check the garment's care label for washing instructions and always dry woolens flat. Never rub vigorously when hand-washing to prevent felting.

If you treat your wool garment as described above, it will not only stay looking better and last longer, but you'll also help the environment by airing it out instead of washing it.

Storing woolen clothes

We recommend storing your woolen clothing clean, perhaps with a lavender bag; this will keep moths at bay. It's also best to store woolen clothing flat to prevent damage to the wool's elasticity.

Pills and fluff

Wool can pill or fluff with use. This has nothing to do with the quality of the wool. Pilling is a natural phenomenon that is mainly caused by friction. Wool consists of many hairs with a natural crimp (curl). Friction can cause the wool to pill and felt. Felting occurs when the hairs are bunched together by friction. In fact, every movement causes friction. You often find fluff/pilling on the sleeves and under the armpits.

New clothes may sometimes still have some loose hairs left behind after the weaving and knitting process.

Unfortunately, pilling and fluff on your beautiful (merino) wool clothing is unavoidable. We have some tips to help you delay this process and how to remove the fluff and pilling. For this information, please refer to our blog.

Islender

Islender is a Scandinavian term for a thick woolen work shirt or sweater. These sweaters have been worn by fishermen and other workers for generations. Traditionally, these sweaters were knitted in a black and white pattern. The name Islender most likely derives from the Icelandic Company, which connected the coastal communities on the North Sea with trade and shipping.

About Bråtens

In 1955, Bråtens was founded under the name Eskimo. Eskimo supplied socks to the Norwegian, Danish, and Swedish armies. The range was soon expanded to include sweaters, jackets, hats, and mittens. After the acquisition by Loxy AS, the name Eskimo was changed to Bråtens.

Bråtens focuses on creating sustainable products. Over the past 10 years, there have been significant developments in sustainable materials and production. Bråtens also ensures good working conditions for production abroad. Bråtens is convinced that openness, focus, and knowledge sharing regarding a cleaner clothing industry are the key to the future.

The wool Bråtens uses for its products comes from Norwegian sheep. Norwegian farmers prioritize animal welfare. The animals live outdoors for most of the year. Furthermore, minimal antibiotic use is made, which benefits the quality of the wool. Further along in the process, during the processing of the wool, biodegradable detergents are used, and the lanolin is used for cosmetics. All packaging materials are also recycled.

Bråtens also uses Australian merino wool for its socks and underwear. Naturally, this wool is mulesing-free.

"Bråtens; when only the best is good enough!"
