About Planet Wool
Planet Wool was founded by a Dutch initiative in 2015, after the earthquakes in Nepal. Founder Jan Bosmans brought Nepalese hats back from his trip and sold them in the Netherlands. The proceeds went to a school in Nepal. What started as a small gesture grew into Planet Wool: a webshop with fair, handmade wool products from Nepal. With every purchase you support local workers and contribute to a better life for them and their community.
The wool products of Planet wool
The woolen hats, woolen gloves and woolen headbands are made in a small factory in Nepal, under good working conditions. The products are made of high quality wool, and the hats and headbands have an inner lining of soft fleece, which increases the wearing comfort.
Where are Planet Wool products made?
The Planet Wool factory is located in Kavresthaly. The woolen hats, woolen headbands and woolen gloves are made from 100% sheep wool, which is imported from Australia, England and Ireland. The wool must meet high quality standards and is therefore purchased from smaller sheep farmers. 20 to 30 people work in the small factory, where the working conditions are good. The owner has chosen not to purchase knitting machines, so that all employees can keep their jobs. The employees receive 20% more wages than the average factory worker and can borrow money interest-free via a special health fund for medicines, for example. They only have to pay this money back when they are able to do so.
Planet wool and charities in Nepal
For every product sold, one euro is donated to a charity in Nepal, this charity is Stichting Nepal. Through them, we donate to various charities. Since 2015, Planet Wool has donated a total of approximately 100,000 euros to charities.
