How are the sheepskins processed?
Texelana medicinally tanned pelts are gently cleaned according to the strictest EU standards and are ecologically tanned. This preserves the active emollient lanolin (wool fat) and the soft texture of the wool. It also retains a slight natural scent. No chemical dyes are used for these pelts. The medicinal tanning process also provides the pelts with better protection against mold growth.
The coat is clipped back to approximately 3 cm, which ensures good pressure distribution. This also ensures that the coat is less likely to tangle and can be brushed out easily. Medically tanned coats are not dyed or bleached. The yellowish color of the coat comes from the tanning process.
Pleasant lighting
The dense coat of these dogs helps retain body heat, which can help alleviate muscle pain.
Medicinally tanned sheepskin can help slow the development of pressure sores. The soft, moisture-regulating, and warming medicinal sheepskin is also a solution for other discomforts caused by prolonged lying or sitting.
Gently hand wash at 30°C with wool detergent. We recommend using Texelana Wool Detergent .
Washing instructions
Medicinal coats are washable (to a limited extent), we advise only washing the coat when strictly necessary!
- Hand wash at 30°C with Texelana® wool detergent (contains lanolin);
- After washing, rinse thoroughly with clean water;
- Add a generous splash of natural vinegar to the final rinse. Let the leather sit in this for 10-15 minutes (this prevents the leather from hardening).
- Let the coat dry at room temperature with the furry side down, for example on a drying rack. Never in the dryer, and do not place it on or near a radiator or in direct sunlight.
- During the drying process, regularly shape the leather to keep it supple and prevent it from curling up;
- After drying, comb the coat with a stiff brush to keep the sheepskin beautiful and wonderfully soft;
- After washing, the leather may become less supple and the hair may become stiffer. This is normal. Washing the fur is at your own risk.
Origin
Our sheepskins come from the Netherlands, England, Ireland, Sweden, and Iceland and are tanned and processed in various tanneries in Europe, in accordance with EU guidelines.
