Maintenance
Wool is a great material for clothing because it is antibacterial and odor-resistant. Woolen clothing therefore does not need to be washed often. Hang the garment outside occasionally to freshen it up. If you do want to wash the garment, we recommend Texelana Wool Detergent. When hand washing, never rub hard to prevent felting. Always check the label in the garment for washing instructions. Always let wool clothing dry flat.
If you treat your woolen garment in this way, it will not only stay more beautiful and last longer. By airing instead of washing, you also save the environment.
Storing wool clothing
We advise you to store your wool clothing clean, possibly with a sachet of lavender; this keeps moths at bay. It is also best to store wool clothing flat, so that the elasticity of the wool is not affected.
Pilling and fuzz
Wool can pill or fuzz with use. This has nothing to do with the quality of the wool. Pilling is a natural phenomenon that mainly occurs due to friction. Wool consists of many hairs with a natural crimp (curls). Due to friction, the wool can pill and felt. When felting, the hairs join together due to friction. In fact, every movement causes friction. You will therefore often find the fuzz/pills on the sleeves and under the armpits.
With new clothing, there may sometimes also be some loose hairs left over after the weaving and knitting process.
Pilling and fuzz on your beautiful (merino) wool clothing is unfortunately unavoidable. We have some tips to delay this process somewhat and how to remove the fuzz and pills. For this information, we refer to our blog.
