Maintenance
Wool is a great material for clothing because it is antibacterial and odor-resistant. Therefore, wool clothing does not need to be washed often. Hang the garment outside occasionally to freshen it up. If you do want to wash the garment, we recommend Texelana Wool Detergent. When hand washing, never rub hard to prevent felting. Always check the label in the garment for washing instructions. Always dry wool clothing flat.
If you treat your wool garment in this way, it will not only look better and last longer. Airing it out instead of washing also helps the environment.
Storing wool clothing
We recommend storing your wool clothing clean, possibly with a sachet of lavender; this keeps moths away. It is also best to store wool clothing flat, so that the elasticity of the wool is not affected.
Pilling and lint
Wool can pill or lint with use. This has nothing to do with the quality of the wool. Pilling is a natural phenomenon that mainly occurs due to friction. Wool consists of many hairs with a natural crimp (curls). Due to friction, the wool can pill and felt. When felting, the hairs join together due to friction. In fact, every movement causes friction. You will therefore often find the lint/pills on the sleeves and under the armpits.
With new clothing, there may sometimes still be some loose hairs left after the weaving and knitting process.
Unfortunately, pilling and lint on your beautiful (merino) wool clothing cannot be prevented. We have some tips to somewhat delay this process and how to remove the lint and pills. For this information, we refer you to our blog.
