Care
Wool is a great material for clothing because it is antibacterial and odor-resistant. Woolen clothing therefore does not need to be washed often. Hang the garment outside occasionally to freshen it up. If you do want to wash the garment, we recommend Texelana Wool Detergent. When hand washing, never rub hard to prevent felting. Always check the label in the garment for washing instructions. Always dry woolen clothing flat.
If you treat your woolen garment in this way, it will not only stay more beautiful and last longer. By airing instead of washing, you also protect the environment.
Storing woolen clothing
We recommend storing your woolen clothing clean, possibly with a sachet of lavender; this keeps moths at bay. It is also best to store woolen clothing flat, so that the elasticity of the wool is not affected.
Pilling and fluff
Wool can pill or fluff with use. This has nothing to do with the quality of the wool. Pilling is a natural phenomenon that mainly occurs due to friction. Wool consists of many hairs with a natural crimp (curls). Due to friction, the wool can pill and felt. With felting, the hairs join together due to friction. In fact, every movement causes friction. You will therefore often find the fluff/pills on the sleeves and under the armpits.
With new clothing, there may sometimes also be some loose hairs left after the weaving and knitting process.
Unfortunately, pilling and fluff on your beautiful (merino) wool clothing cannot be prevented. We have some tips to somewhat delay this process and how to remove the fluff and pills. For this information, we refer to our blog.
