How to optimally maintain your sheepskin products
Natural comfort that lasts
At Texelana, we believe that you only truly enjoy a product if it lasts a long time. Our sheepskin slippers, gloves, and mittens are made from natural materials such as wool and leather, comfortable and naturally resilient. With proper care, they not only stay beautiful but also safe and pleasant to use.
The wool fibres contain lanolin, a natural wool grease that helps repel dirt and odours. In addition, wool has a unique structure that traps air and regulates moisture. This keeps slippers and mittens fresh longer, even when you wear them daily.
Good maintenance makes all the difference
Although wool can do a lot on its own, a little attention helps immensely. After a day of wear, it's wise to let your slippers or mittens air out. This allows moisture to evaporate and keeps the material in good condition. Avoid damp areas or direct heat sources such as a heater, as this can dry out the leather and damage the wool.
If a stain appears, you can usually clean it easily locally with a slightly damp cloth. By occasionally brushing the wool gently, it remains fluffy and retains its soft and comfortable character. These small actions noticeably extend its lifespan.
To preserve your sheepskin products, we advise spraying them with a protective spray (not mousse) before first use and then regularly. This protects the product from water and dirt. Please note: sheepskin products cannot be washed!
Repairing extends lifespan
Over time, every product will show signs of use. That is quite normal. Wear and tear does not immediately mean that a product needs to be replaced. On the contrary: many parts can be easily repaired.
Consider, for example, a sole that is becoming thin or seams that are coming loose. This type of wear can often be easily repaired by a shoemaker or specialist in wool and leather products. By repairing in time, the product remains safe and comfortable to use, and you prevent small damages from becoming larger.
When is replacement necessary?
There comes a time when a product loses its function. When the sole of slippers is completely worn through or when mittens lose their firmness, this can affect use and safety.
In that case, it is advisable to replace the product. Products must remain reliable with normal use, and when that is no longer the case, replacement is the best choice.
Recycling sheepskin products?
When your sheepskin product needs replacing, it can also be recycled via the clothing bank.
Get the most out of your Texelana product
By taking good care of your sheepskin slippers and mittens, repairing them on time, and consciously dealing with the end of their lifespan, you get the most out of them. This way, the comfortable, warm feeling of wool is preserved, and you enjoy it day in, day out.
Exactly as it should be.
