Frequently asked questions about wool duvets
Is a wool duvet suitable for people who sweat?
A wool duvet is very suitable for people who sweat, because wool can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture without feeling wet. This creates a dry and comfortable sleeping environment. As a result, you are less likely to wake up clammy and your bed stays fresh longer.
Is a wool duvet warm enough in winter?
A wool duvet is certainly warm enough in winter, as wool retains heat well and adapts to your body temperature. At the same time, it prevents overheating by dissipating excess heat. For cold nights, a winter duvet or 4-season duvet is the best choice.
Why does a wool duvet stay fresh longer?
A wool duvet stays fresh longer because wool naturally contains lanolin and has an open fiber structure that regulates moisture and warmth well. This reduces the chance of bacteria developing, which in turn reduces odor formation. Additionally, wool absorbs moisture without feeling damp, keeping the sleeping climate dry and comfortable.
How long does a wool duvet last?
A wool duvet can last on average between 10 and 20 years, depending on the quality of the wool, maintenance, and how intensively the duvet is used. To extend its lifespan, it is important to 'open up' the duvet daily so that absorbed moisture can evaporate properly. Furthermore, we recommend airing the wool duvet outdoors occasionally; this helps the wool retain its natural crimp.
Can you wash a wool duvet?
A wool duvet cannot be washed; it can only be cleaned by a professional dry cleaner. We advise against doing this too often, to preserve the natural properties of the wool. Small stains can be carefully cleaned by hand with lukewarm soapy water.
For maintenance, it's important to 'air out' the duvet daily so that absorbed moisture can evaporate properly. Furthermore, it's good to air out a wool duvet outdoors occasionally; this helps the wool retain its natural crimp. This is sufficient for the maintenance of your wool duvet.
What is the best wool duvet?
The best wool duvet depends on various factors, such as your personal preferences, the season, and your budget.
Texelana offers 4 versions of wool-filled duvets
The difference lies in the quality of the casing; this varies from standard cotton to cotton satin. The Exquisiet duvet, however, has a different filling; for this type, the summer duvet is filled with a mix of wool and wild silk. The quality of the sheep's wool is the same for all types of duvets.
- Texelana Standaard has a 100% cotton casing. This duvet is available as a four-season version.
- Texelana Excellent has a percale cotton casing. This duvet is available as a four-season duvet, but also as separate summer, spring/autumn, or winter parts.
- Texelana Exquisiet duvet has a cotton satin casing. Cotton satin is 100% natural cotton and therefore also has the fine properties of cotton: it breathes and is moisture-absorbing. This duvet is available as a four-season duvet.
- Waddenparel has a 100% cotton casing. This duvet is available as a four-season version. The two parts can be joined together with snap fasteners.
In which season should I use the wool duvet?
Do you want a wool duvet because it is wonderfully warm in winter? Or precisely for summer because of its ventilating properties? A wool
4-season duvet has it all. You can of course also choose a separate summer duvet, a spring/autumn duvet or a winter duvet made of wool.
