Maintenance
Wool is a great material for clothing because it is antibacterial and odor resistant. Wool clothing therefore does not need to be washed often. Hang the garment outside occasionally to freshen it up. If you do want to wash the garment, we recommend the Texelana Wool Detergent. When hand washing, never rub hard to prevent felting. Always check the label in the garment for washing instructions. Always dry wool clothing flat.
If you treat your wool garment this way, it will not only stay beautiful and last longer. By airing instead of washing, you also save the environment.
Storing wool clothing
We recommend storing your wool clothing clean, possibly with a sachet of lavender; this keeps moths away. It is also best to store wool clothing flat so that the elasticity of the wool is not affected.
Pilling and fluff
Wool can pill or fluff with use. This has nothing to do with the quality of the wool. Pilling is a natural phenomenon that mainly occurs due to friction. Wool consists of many hairs with a natural crimp (curls). Due to friction, the wool can pill and felt. When felting, the hairs combine due to friction. In fact, every movement causes friction. You will therefore often find the fluff/pills on the sleeves and under the armpits.
With new clothing, some loose hairs may sometimes still be present after the weaving and knitting process.
Pilling and fluff on your beautiful (merino) wool clothing cannot be prevented, unfortunately. We have some tips to delay this process somewhat and how to remove the fluff and pills. For this information, we refer to our blog.
