Maintenance
Wool is a great material for clothing because it's antibacterial and odor-resistant. Therefore, wool clothing doesn't need to be washed often. Hang it outside occasionally to freshen it up. If you do want to wash it, we recommend Texelana Wool Detergent . When hand-washing, never rub vigorously to prevent felting. Always check the garment's care label for washing instructions. Always dry wool clothing flat.
Treating your wool garment this way will not only keep it looking better and make it last longer, but by airing it out instead of washing it, you'll also help the environment.
Pills and fluff
Wool can pill or fluff with use. This has nothing to do with the quality of the wool. Pilling is a natural phenomenon that is mainly caused by friction. Wool consists of many hairs with a natural crimp (curl). Friction can cause the wool to pill and felt. Felting occurs when the hairs are bunched together by friction. In fact, every movement causes friction. You often find fluff/pilling on the sleeves and under the armpits.
New clothes can sometimes still have some loose hairs left behind after the weaving and knitting process. Unfortunately, pilling and fluff on your beautiful (merino) wool clothes is unavoidable. We have some tips to help you delay this process and how to remove them. For more information, please refer to our blog.
