Washing instructions
Always check the label inside the garment for washing instructions. Wool is a fine material for making clothing because it is antibacterial and odor-resistant. Therefore, woolen clothing does not need to be washed often. Hang the garment outside occasionally to freshen up. If you do wish to wash the garment, we recommend Texelana Wool Detergent . Never rub hard when hand washing to prevent felting. Always check the label inside the garment for washing instructions. Always let woolen clothing dry flat.
If you treat your wool garment in this way, it will not only stay looking better and last longer. By airing it instead of washing, you also save the environment.
Storing woolen clothing
We recommend storing your woolen clothing clean, possibly with a sachet of lavender; this keeps moths at bay. It is also best to store woolen clothing lying flat so that the elasticity of the wool is not affected.
Pills and lint
Wool can pill or fluff with use. This has nothing to do with the quality of the wool. Pilling is a natural phenomenon that is primarily caused by friction. Wool consists of many hairs with a natural crimp (curl). Due to friction, the wool can start to pill and felt. When felting, the hairs clump together due to friction. In fact, every movement causes friction. You will therefore often find the fluff/pills on the sleeves and under the armpits.
With new clothing, some loose hairs may sometimes remain after the weaving and knitting process.
Unfortunately, pilling and lint on your beautiful (merino) wool clothing are unavoidable. We have some tips to somewhat delay this process and how to remove the lint and pills. For this information, we refer you to our blog.
About Ivanhoe of Sweden
The family business Ivanhoe was founded in 1946 in Gällstad, a district known as the knitting center of Sweden where tradition and entrepreneurial spirit still live on.
