What does Texelana do with returned products?
What does Texelana do with returned products?
At Texelana, we strive to make a positive impact on the environment together with you. That's why we would like to inform you about how we handle returned products and how you can contribute to a more sustainable return process.
When you return a product, it is not simply put back into circulation. We carefully inspect each returned item to ensure it is in good condition. If the product is still in perfect condition, it will be resold to prevent waste.
In addition, we would like to ask you to be aware of the environmental impact of returns.
- Please try to pack products as well as possible to prevent damage, and if possible, bundle returned products in one box, even if they come from different orders.
- Preferably use the original packaging. The box has a return strip so you can easily open and reseal the shipping packaging.
- Even if you can walk or cycle to the parcel point, you help contribute to a greener world. Make sure that the products to be returned are in new condition and handle them with care. At Texelana, we value sustainable returns and want to emphasize that you cannot try out products without commitment. For worn or damaged items, we will apply a depreciation.
Fewer returns, less emissions
Every return means extra transport, and thus more CO₂ emissions. A shame, right? By making a good choice beforehand, you help prevent this. That's why you'll find with us:
- Clear size charts – so you choose the right size immediately.
- Clear product photos – you see exactly what you are ordering.
- Experiences of others – reviews that give you an honest picture.
Take some time to make a conscious choice. That saves emissions and prevents hassle afterwards.
As a recipient, you can also easily do your part. Not home? Then adjust the delivery time or location in the My DHL app. This way, the delivery person is less often faced with a closed door, and no unnecessary kilometers are made. Are you going for the greenest delivery option? Then have the package delivered to a DHL ServicePoint. Do you really want to do this green? Then come walking or by bike. The CO2 emissions from your home to the service point have not yet been included and will also not be compensated.
Let's work together to protect our planet and take responsibility for our purchases.
Thank you for your support of our efforts for a more sustainable future.

The fleeces we sell are of European origin.
The fleeces come from Great Britain, Ireland, Sweden, Iceland, and the Netherlands. There might also be Texel sheep among them, but we cannot guarantee that.
Does the wool for your duvets come from Texel?
Does the wool for your duvets come from Texel?
Texelana duvets are filled with wool from the Texel sheep breed (this breed is not exclusive to Texel, by the way). This wool is ideal for use in duvets, underblankets, and pillows due to its curly nature and strong fiber.
How does the tanning process work?

For the tanning process, mainly water, fat (minimal amount), soda (minimal amount which is neutralized very quickly in production), natural salt, and washing/cleaning ingredients are used.
We have our sheepskin products manufactured in Europe according to EU standards.
Garment care
Can I wash wool clothes?
Can I wash wool clothes?
It's best to wash wool clothing with a wool detergent that contains lanolin, so that the special properties of wool are not lost. It's better not to use fabric softener for wool clothing. If desired, you can add a tablespoon of natural vinegar instead of fabric softener. The vinegar gives a beautiful shine and helps the colors stay vibrant.
If you're washing wool clothing in a washing machine, we recommend turning the clothing inside out to minimize damage to the outside. It's also important that the drum isn't too full; wool needs a lot of space. Always choose a wool wash program on your washing machine and keep the temperature low (maximum 30 degrees, cold wash). For the spin speed, choose a maximum of 1000 RPM.
Drying: it's best to dry wool clothing flat, either on the floor or on a drying rack, with a towel underneath. Do not hang the garment; the wool will have become heavy from the water, and the clothing can stretch and lose its shape. Wool dries best outdoors.
When storing your wool clothing back in the closet, it's also best to store it lying flat. We advise against hanging it, as the wool can stretch.
Help! My sweater has shrunk, what now?
Help! My sweater has shrunk, what now?
If your sweater has shrunk a bit, it's best to put it in a bucket of lukewarm water. Add 1 tablespoon of hair conditioner per liter of water. Let the sweater soak for at least an hour. Stretch the sweater occasionally. Take the sweater out of the water. Squeeze out the excess water from your garment; do not wring or rinse it. Now, lay the sweater on a thick towel on the floor and roll it up. Wait for the towel to absorb the moisture. Unroll the sweater and gently pull it back into shape. Let the sweater continue to dry flat.
Does wool shrink?
Does wool shrink?
Wool shrinks due to heat (above 30 degrees Celsius) and chemicals. If you want to wash your woollen clothing, always follow the washing instructions on the label inside the garment. When washing, preferably use a detergent containing lanolin. We would like to reiterate that woollen clothing does not need to be washed often. Simply airing it out is often enough to refresh the garment.
Why is it best to wash wool clothing with a wool detergent containing lanolin?
Why is it best to wash wool clothing with a wool detergent containing lanolin?
Texelana's wool detergent with lanolin is ideal for all your wool laundry. The detergent is biodegradable, making it perfect for effectively cleaning a natural product like wool. What makes this product so special? This wool detergent contains lanolin, the most important and nourishing component derived from sheep's wool. This helps preserve the positive properties of wool. The lanolin ensures that your laundry feels wonderfully soft again after washing.
Tip: Due to its mild nature, Texelana wool detergent can also be used very well for washing your dog.
Help! My wool sweater is starting to pill, what should I do?
Help! My wool sweater is starting to pill, what should I do?
Wool can pill or fluff up with use. This has nothing to do with the quality of the wool. Pilling is a natural phenomenon related to the processing and is mainly caused by friction.
Tips for fluff and pilling
- Always follow the washing instructions on the care label. Please note: wool clothing does not need to be washed often! See the information above for this.
- Use a special wool detergent. This helps maintain the natural lanolin layer of the wool, keeping the fibers supple and preventing them from felting quickly.
- To minimize fluff, it is best to wash your wool clothing inside out, preferably in a special laundry bag. This prevents clothes from unnecessarily rubbing against other rough or sharp (zippers) items.
- Do not wear the same (merino) wool garment several days in a row. Wool fibers have a kind of shape memory. If you let a worn garment rest for a day, the fibers have a chance to recover.
Tips for removing fluff and pilling from clothing:
Do not pull them off by hand. This will pull more fibers to the surface, and these will then felt even more.
With a wool comb. Lay your wool garment as flat and smooth as possible. With one hand, gently stretch the knit until it lies completely flat. Stroke with the wool comb in one direction. Repeat this until most of the fluff and pills are removed.
With a lint shaver. This is a handy device that shaves off fluff and pills directly from the knit. Available at stores for household items.
How do I remove stains from wool?
How do I remove stains from wool?
Stains on wool items are best removed immediately with a damp cloth. If the stain has been there for a while, you can gently massage it with wool detergent (with lanolin) or ox gall soap. Let the soap soak in for a few minutes and then carefully wash it out with a cloth and some water.
Care for Sheepskin and Sheepskin Products
How to keep my sheepskin beautiful / how do I maintain my sheepskin?
How to keep my sheepskin beautiful / how do I maintain my sheepskin?
Sheepskin maintenance is simple and easy to carry out; it's best to gently brush the fleece occasionally. You can do this with a dog brush, for example. This ensures that the hairs separate again, reducing the chance of felting. How often you brush the fleece depends on the type of fleece and its use. Long-haired fleeces should be brushed more often than shorn fleeces to prevent felting. We also recommend airing the fleece outdoors regularly, as this has a refreshing effect. Do not hang a sheepskin in direct sunlight, as this can cause the leather to dry out and become hard and stiff.

Washing sheepskins?
Washing sheepskins?
We have one clear answer to the question of whether you can wash a sheepskin: no! A standard tanned sheepskin is not washable. The skin/leather side of the sheepskin dries out and hardens when washed, which can cause the leather to tear. Once leather has hardened, it unfortunately cannot be made soft and supple again.
A medically tanned Texelana sheepskin can be carefully washed, but as little as possible and only if necessary. Medically tanned sheepskins are often used in healthcare and for babies. In the event of an 'accident', you can first try to clean the stain locally. The leather should be spared as much as possible to prevent dehydration.
For more information about our medically tanned sheepskins, click here.
How do I wash a medicinally tanned hide?
How do I wash a medicinally tanned hide?
A medical sheepskin can – only if absolutely necessary – be carefully hand-washed. This is because medical sheepskins are tanned differently from 'regular' sheepskins. Please note that wool detergent should be used instead of regular detergents. Washing must be done very carefully and is at your own risk. For more information, please see our blog on washing sheepskins.
Can I wash a bike saddle cover?
Can I wash a bike saddle cover?
A saddle pad cannot be washed, as the leather will become hard. Unfortunately, leather that has become hard cannot be made supple again. In case of a stain, we recommend carefully cleaning only the stain with some water and wool detergent. Afterwards, carefully rinse the fleece with water, ensuring the leather side does not get wet.
Can I wash my gloves/mittens?
Can I wash my gloves/mittens?
Sheepskin gloves are not washable. Washing would cause the leather to harden, and hardened leather unfortunately cannot be made supple again. Wool gloves or mittens are washable, however. Always check the label inside the garment for washing instructions. When handwashing, never rub vigorously to prevent felting. Always dry wool gloves flat.
Should I spray my sheepskin gloves/mittens/slippers before use?
Should I spray my sheepskin gloves/mittens/slippers before use?
To preserve sheepskin products, we recommend spraying them with a protective spray (not a mousse) before first use and then regularly thereafter. This protects the product from water and dirt. We recommend Collonil Active Universal Protector for this purpose. Please note: sheepskin products cannot be washed!
If your gloves get wet in the rain, we recommend laying them flat on a towel to dry. Never place them on the radiator, as this will harden the leather.

Can Wandelwol go in the washing machine?
Can Wandelwol go in the washing machine?
Unfortunately, Wandelwol cannot be washed after use. You can air out the Wandelwol and then reuse it.
Can I wash my duvet?
Can I wash my duvet?
A wool-filled duvet is not washable. Regular airing of a duvet is the best maintenance; airing causes the wool to fluff up again and release moisture. If you do want to have the duvet cleaned, you can have it dry-cleaned at a dry cleaner.
Material knowledge
What are the benefits of wool?
What are the benefits of wool?
Wool has excellent insulating properties; it keeps you warm when it's cold and breathes when it's warm. This is because a lot of air can get trapped between the highly crimped hairs. This layer of air ensures that your body heat remains within the wool.
Wool has many special properties. Firstly, wool has moisture-regulating capabilities, meaning it can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture and easily release it back into the air. Furthermore, wool is self-cleaning; it is antibacterial and dirt-repellent due to lanolin. Another advantage is that wool is flame retardant; due to its high moisture content, high ignition temperature, and high nitrogen content, it is a relatively safe material.
Isn't wool too warm in summer?
Isn't wool too warm in summer?
We all know that wool keeps us warm when the temperature is low. But wool also has the opposite effect: it ventilates when the temperature is high. Wool has excellent insulating and moisture-regulating properties, making it suitable for summer as well.
What is merino wool?
What is merino wool?
Merino wool is a special quality of wool. The fibers are much longer and thinner and have a very fine structure. That is why merino wool is so particularly suitable for making clothing. The thin, fine wool fibers of the merino sheep are approximately 0.01 mm thin, in contrast to the wool fibers of, for example, the Shetland sheep, which has wool fibers as thick as 0.04 mm. The thinner and finer the wool fibers, the less itchy the wool is. There is even an itch point; for most people, wool starts to itch with wool fibers thicker than 0.028 mm. Merino wool with 0.01 mm thin fibers will therefore generally not feel itchy. This makes merino wool extremely suitable for making clothing.
What is WandelWol?
What is WandelWol?
WandelWol, also known as anti-pressure wool, is sheep's wool rich in lanolin. This aid provides pressure relief and skin recovery. It is a versatile product that can be used in various ways. For more information, see this product.
What is fleece?
What is fleece?
Wolborg is made from wool, knitted in jersey. This creates a material that is strong, soft, and warm.
What is wool felt?
What is wool felt?
Wool felt is not made from yarn, but from raw wool. If you look at the wool fiber under a microscope, you will see small scales and side hairs. Under the influence of moisture and heat, these scales open up. Due to friction, the scales and side hairs interlock. In this way, the wool shrinks, so to speak, and the material becomes more compact and sturdy. Wool felt is very strong and extremely durable. We sell Haflinger and Glerups slippers made from this sustainable material.
What is boiled wool?
What is boiled wool?
With boiled wool, wool yarn is first knitted and then boiled. The boiling causes the wool to shrink, making it denser and firmer. Boiled wool retains its beautiful color and hardly wrinkles. Boiled wool is used in clothing and slippers, for example in Giesswein slippers.
What is pure new wool?
What is pure new wool?
Virgin wool is a type of wool; virgin wool comes from a healthy and living sheep. You can recognise pure virgin wool by the international wool mark.
“Regular” wool is wool that has been reused and therefore does not come directly from a living sheep. Lambswool is wool shorn from a lamb between 7 and 9 months old.
What are medically tanned hides?
What are medically tanned hides?
Texelana medically tanned sheepskins have been gently cleaned according to EU standards and are ecologically tanned. This preserves the active softening substance lanolin (wool fat) and the soft structure of the wool. This also ensures that the natural scent remains slightly present. No chemical dyes are used for these sheepskins. Medically tanned sheepskins are not dyed or bleached. The yellowish color of the sheepskin is due to the tanning method.
The wool is shorn to approximately 3 cm, which makes the pressure distribution offered by the sheepskin better than with a "regular" sheepskin. Medically tanned sheepskins are widely used in strollers, but also offer a lot of comfort for people who lie or sit for long periods.
What is lanolin?
What is lanolin?
Lanolin is a natural product. This tough, very greasy substance is nourishing, rich and pure wool fat that comes from sheep's wool.

Legal Guarantee
All items you purchase from us are covered by the legal guarantee.
A legal guarantee means that a product is or must do what the consumer can reasonably expect from it. In addition, Texelana also applies its own warranty period to all products you buy in the webshop. This additional guarantee does not detract from the legal guarantee.
Texelana Guarantee
Texelana applies a warranty period of six months to all products you purchase in the webshop.
If a product you ordered in our webshop breaks down within this period, you can contact our customer service.
Items do not meet the warranty conditions if:
• the information or your data that you have attached to the product is illegible.
• you have altered the product or had it repaired by a party other than Texelana BV and without consulting us.
• the damage to the product was caused by intent, improper use or negligence.
What do we do for you if a product falls within the warranty period and conditions?
Can the item be repaired without losing the quality, durability or appearance of the product? Then we will repair it for you.
Is repair not possible? Then you will receive a new product or (partial) refund.
We have our own repair service. In the event of damage and imperfections caused by us and/or within the warranty period, you can use this service free of charge.
In other repair or alteration cases, we can make a price agreement with you.
